Hi, I’m Tony – 'one of three Kiwis' affected by a neurological disease, say the Neurological Foundation – and with the assistance of Taupo Waka Ama Club, am hoping to raise as much as possible for neurological research ("north of $10,000" was what I had initially hoped for, yet now WE are at that, let's press on so we can make a TRUER DENT in neurologically-afflictions, for everyone's sake). I have Motor Neuron Disease (MND), of the ALS-variety (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), and hope/aim to solo-waka ama for 7kms (or 2 hours) on gorgeous Lake Taupo come Sunday 23rd February.  

Sounds a breeze, I know. Yet courtesy of my mistress MND, my hands are shaky (10 minutes+ to type this far), I take in less than half of the oxygen my peer group (66 years) does, I need to be walk-assisted, blah, blah – I think you all know her/MND. It slowly squeezes the life out of you, and there is no cure.

Yet. I do believe a positive domino-like effect will happen once we find the reason ‘why’ one of the main neuronal diseases – Alzheimer’s, Parkinsons, MS, etc – occurs.
