Hi, I’m Tony – 'one of three Kiwis' affected by a neurological disease – and am hoping to raise as much as possible for neurological research; $10,000 would be excellent (for everyone neurologically-affected). I have Motor Neuron Disease (MND), of the ALS-variety (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), and hope to waka ama for 7kms (or 2 hours) on gorgeous Lake Taupo come Sunday 23rd February.
Sounds a breeze, I know. Yet courtesy of my mistress MND, my hands are shaky (10 minutes+ to get this far), I take in less than half of the oxygen my peer group (66 years) does, I need to be walk-assisted, blah, blah – I think you all know her/MND. It slowly squeezes the life out of you, and there is no cure.
To date. I do believe a domino-like effect will happen once we find the reason ‘why’ one of the main neuronal diseases – Alzheimer’s, Parkinsons, MS, etc – occurs.
